Mariachi Quetzal isn’t your run-of-the-mill mariachi band. Comprised of University of North Texas-educated musicians, the ensemble possesses incredible talent, a broad repertoire, and they have been bringing mariachi music out of the parties and restaurants and into more mainstream venues: clubs like Dan’s Silver Leaf in Denton, Bandera’s, and Reno’s Chop Shop in Deep Ellum. In September, they will be performing in the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Patio Sessions series.
The band invaded the D Magazine offices last Friday, and we managed to catch the performance on video. The third song in the video, “Popurri Veracruzano,” will blow you away.

I’m so used to “liking” things on facebook. I wish I could like this.
What an awesome group of musicians. Great performance!
@Will: You can share it, and then like it on your FB page once you’ve shared it. It may feel like liking it twice.
I’m guessing Tim ran out to pick himself up a pair of those tight pants with the baby blue ruffles going down the leg. He can meet Eric Celeste at the store…
How awesome1 I love this group.
well that’s one way to pay off your student loans
Viva Mariachi! Awesome players and great music. Keep spreading the music all over the world.
THE BEST!
I could probably get a lot more accomplished if this band followed me around all day every day.
