This is it: the final chapter in our three part summer film series, “Dallas, Outlaws, and the American Dream,” which paired three films with local ties to explore how our city’s infatuation with the image of the outlaws defines our culture and identity (for a more in depth view of the concept, go here).

On Thursday, August 25, we’ll screen Wim Wenders’ wonderful Palme d’Or-winning Paris, Texas, at the Kessler Theater. Paris, Texas, written by Sam Shepard and Dallas’ L.M. Kit ..read more

Did You Miss This Weekend’s Hillsboro Bottle Rocket Screening? Catch it Again July 28

I know, I know. It is hard to compete with an outdoor screening of Bottle Rocket put on by the Alamo Drafthouse’s mobile cinema at the very Hillsboro motel where the young Wes Anderson, Owen and Luke Wilson filmed their breakthrough comedy some 16 years ago. Very cool gig.

But we know not everyone was able to make it out to the motel this weekend, and if not, you’re in luck, because you have another chance to see the film. On Thursday, July 28 we will screen the movie at the Kessler Theater as part of our continuing summer film series, “Dallas, Outlaws, and the American Dream.” To find out everything you need to know about the idea behind the series, click here. But this is all you really need to know: Bottle Rocket is the best movie ever made in Dallas. It is beyond hilarious, completely legendary, and captures a certain character of this city like no film you’ve ever seen. It’s required viewing for anyone who has ever lived here, and you’ll get your chance to catch it with an audience on the Kessler’s rather lovely big screen later this month.

That’s Thursday, July 28. Doors open at 6 p.m. And don’t forget to get there early to see singer-songwriters Kevin Deal and Miles Penhall perform in the Kessler’s bar. You can purchase tickets here.

    See you then.

What better way to celebrate a rag-tag crew from Dallas showing the United States that they weren’t to be messed with than watching a movie about a rag-tag couple from Dallas who showed the United States they weren’t to be messed with? Throw some back with us, listen to some good tunes, and watch Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde tomorrow night, the first in our three part film series, “Dallas, Outlaws, and the American Dream.” It is all about our city’s penchant for taking what we want and spitting on it. See you there!
