Concert Picks for Thursday, April 17 – Neil Young, Health, Kaytranada and more

Kick your weekend off right with tonight’s concert picks:

Health (Three Links): Known primarily for their energetic live shows, this Los Angeles-based noise rock quartet made quite a name for themselves in the aftermath of their self-titled debut in 2007, and for its subsequent remix albums, Health//Disco and Health//Disco 2. The band’s managed to stay busy since the release of their second full-length project (2009′s Get Color)  with plenty of soundtrack appearances, a healthy touring schedule, and quite possibly another album in the works. Tonight, they’ll take to the Three Links stage with Blackstone Rangers and Cutter as strong supporting acts.

Neil Young (Meyerson Symphony Center): With a career spanning over four decades, Neil Young has won the hearts of many with his lyrical storytelling and numerous contributions to folk, rock, country, and the meticulous hybrid he has made of them all. His famed membership with Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young have led to some of popular music’s most revered works, including Everybody Knows this is Nowhere and American Dream. His impending 2014 release, A Letter Home, has already earned celebrations of its low-tech sound and anticipated collaborations from Jack White and others. The first of his two-night appearance at the Meyerson Symphony Center kicks off tonight at 7pm.

Kaytranada (Trees): Judging by the number of hits amassed on his collection of remixes and beats, Canadian-based DJ Kaytranada has definitely found his place in dance music. Known for his experimental mixes of R&B, hip-hop, and more, his mixtapes and collaborations have earned him plenty of accolades from fellow DJs and artists alike. Last year saw him headlining tours from North America to Europe, the release of his instantly-popular “At All” single and video, and preparation for a possible 2014 solo album that will likely be both critically acclaimed and well-received, judging by his current trajectory. Catch him tonight as part of his domestic tour, and before he’s whisked off to Europe for the summer.

Dallas’ DJs will be performing their weekly residencies as well, so be sure to consider Colly T’s VIBE, DJ Sober’s “The Basement”, DJ Spacechase’s Subsonic Inudulgence, or the Mobile Mondays NYC (featuring Rob Viktum and Spinderella) as viable after-party options, since many of tonight’s big events run somewhat early.
