As you might also be aware, there is a rather prominent music festival happening north of the city this weekend, and I hope to see you out there. What follows are a handful of events that will be taking place around the periphery of one of the most important weekends in North Texas music.

THURSDAY

Stereo on Strike” (Zubar): Wanz doesn’t press pause for anyone, and his techno purist event will feature Convextion and Luke Sardello this evening.

Breakfast Machine/Animal Spirit/Last Nighters (The Grotto)

Pinback/J.P. Inc (Trees): Pinback at Trees. Wow, what year is it again?

FRIDAY

“Less Than Zero” (Ten Bells Tavern): Local band At Night’s keyboardist, DJ Mudi, will be playing music from, well, just guess what decade? I bet you can figure it out from the reference. There will also be “funny retro videos” and “strange bizarre” visuals accompanying the music. Ten Bells generally plays great music anyway, so this is just a bonus.

“Top Notch” (It’ll Do Club): The always-entertaining, long-running, monthly from Sober is back, with an appearance from the artist’s new project, Booty Fade, along with Phoenix bass enthusiast, Luminox.

SATURDAY

Friends of Friends and New Media Recordings Presents: ”NMR Unofficial 35 Denton” Showcase (Hickory Street House): You will see no shortage of these sorts of free shows this weekend, though donations are accepted in this instance. This definitely looks like the best lineup playing in Fort Worth this weekend. I don’t know how you host two stages at a house show, but hats off to the organizers for that feat:

Stage A
1:00 Eyes Wings & Many Other Things (dallas)
2:30 The Migrant (Denmark)
4:00 Don Feagin of The Theater Fire (Fort Worth)
5:30 Jacob Metcalf (Dallas)
7:00 Tiger Tooth & Paw (Denton)
8:30 Skeleton Coast (Fort Worth)

Stage B
1:45 Ghost To Falco (San Francisco)
3:15 The Angelus (Dallas)
4:45 Clint Niosi (Fort Worth)
6:15 Twigs & Yarn (Austin)
7:45 Sisson (Austin)

Chris Garver/Telemegasounds/Diamond Age/Anger House/Dharma/Daniel Francis Doyle/Violent Squid (Fulton St. House): Last year’s 35 Denton Saturday featured a house show just like this one and it was rainy, miserable, and colder than expected. This is a similarly great lineup, but I can do without those other elements, literally. Either way, I’ll see you there.

Pocket Change/Prisons/Air Darla/Richard Haskins and the Bad Ideas (Sharon Tate House on Egan): I love Pocket Change’s blurring of the line between performance art and music, and I’m very curious about Prisons, but do we really have to call this the “Sharon Tate House?” The show starts promptly at 7 pm.

Wax Addicts” (Circuit 12 Contemporary): This pre-party for South by Southwest features DJ Amir, JT Donaldson, Sober, and Luke Sardello, who is extra busy this weekend. Is Circuit 12 the best venue in Dallas that’s not actually a venue all of a sudden?

 Other Saturday Shows:

Devin the Dude/Coughee Brothaz (Granada Theater)

Vaden Todd Lewis/Will Johnson (The Kessler Theater)

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (House of Blues)

“SUNDAY

Aesop Rock/Rob Sonic/DJ Big Wiz/Busdriver (Granada Theater): If you’re a hip hop fan, and you hate music festivals, this weekend was tailor-made for you.
