In yet another entry to 35 Denton’s “Cover Series,” where a known local act interprets the music of a known national act, we have the Dallas duo Leg Sweeper doing a completely rock-based job of Rice University Guest Lecturer, former UGK rapper, and wonderful Twitter read, Bun B’s tough neighborhood anthem, “My Block.” At first listen, the twosome is reminiscent of another two-man band and former 35 Denton performers, Japanther, at their most pop-punk, but is essentially a rock band with occasional hip hop leanings.
What then takes place looks to be some irresponsible festivities in front of the new 35 Denton headquarters, complete with converted 35 D-branded 40 oz libations, at a converted gas station off the square, but mostly centered around an 18-wheeler. See for yourself. It reminds me of the days when the tall bike gangs were running around knocking things over in Denton, and everyone blamed every act of vandalism on “those Dallas bike kids,” whether it was accurate or not. I miss those days.
In a somewhat related question: What do you find to be the ultimate Houston-related “Block Anthem?” “My Block” by Bun B? Or “On My Block” by Scarface? This debate has been raging in my head for weeks.
Oh, and we’re giving away a couple of tickets to 35 Denton, so please “like” our FrontRow Facebook page by six pm today in order to be eligible. “Like” the 35 Denton Page as well, to be doubly considered.

By all accounts I should like Leg Sweeper. I like fun. I like catchy rock n roll songs. But I really want to stab this band in the face. (note: not the individual members. Just the band.)
