According the DMNCuts blog, the Dallas Morning News‘ latest round of layoffs have claimed another critic from their dwindling staff. We are sure to find out who in the coming days, but a friend at the News assures me it is a name we will all know and recognize.

In short, this is all very depressing. The level of the latest cuts combined with a stagnation in innovation and product investment; the pay-wall model, which seems  intent on jettisoning the News’ wider civic role for a more niche service of dubious economic and social value: if you could never imagine your city without a daily newspaper, at least try imagining your city with a daily that has managed itself into irrelevancy. We’re not that far off.
