Tonight we will wrap up our film series featuring the melodramas of Douglas Sirk and Rainer Werner Fassbinder with a screening of Fassbinder’s In  A Year With 13 Moons at the Texas Theatre. Set in the financial center of Germany, Frankfurt, during that country’s rapid post-war redevelopment, Fassbinder’s film is essentially a hopeless love story between Erwin (who becomes Elvira) and a sadistic real estate developer — a harrowing, heart-wrenching tale that tries to make sense of an unconventional, though emotionally honest man for whom love and life’s meaning proves ever elusive.
