Dec 4Two art events were left off our weekly roundup of the area’s gallery openings yesterday that are really worth checking out. Jump to find out where you need to be Saturday evening.
The first is the solo show of new work by Linnea Glatt at Barry Whistler Gallery. For a number of decades, Glatt has simply been one of the most wonderful artists working in Dallas. Most recently, you may have seen her installation at the Sustenance exhibit in West Dallas, a collaboration with husband and sculptor Jim Cinquemani. Other public work includes the Walnut Hill DART station and a conical steel sculpture downtown near the Belo building that will play tricks on you if you are unaware that it is an automated work, continually changing its presence in time and space. According to the gallery’s blog, Glatt’s show at Barry Whistler, With In, will feature the latest of her thread drawings, over 60 pieces in total, including two suites of 20 drawings and her largest non-commissioned work to date. To hear more about Linnea Glatt’s work, FrontRow’s Lucia Simek will host a gallery talk with the artist next Saturday, Dec. 11, at Barry Whistler.
Also of note: tomorrow, The Reading Room will host “Tasteful,” which is your run-of-the-mill collaboration of local sculptors who will create edible and consumable art, or, in other words, not your run-of-the-mill exhibition at all. Great to see Dallas’ innovative string of art happenings continue. The project is organized by Erin Starr White and Kristen Cochran, and it will include delicious work by Iris Bechtol, Richie Budd, Kristen Cochran, Cassandra Emswiler, Tom and Shannon Lauerman, Harmony Padgett, Justin and Colleen Shull, Kevin Todora, David Willburn, Billy Zinser, and Lanie DeLay. Bibs are optional.
