May 14, 2 p.m.Southern Methodist University may be losing its press, but this weekend it will flex some literary might. Receiving an honorary degree at SMU’s commencement will be Pulitzer prize-winning poet and MacArthur Award winner Jorie Graham. Our pal Willard Spiegelman, an SMU man of letters himself, points us to another event. At the DeGolyer Library at 2 p.m. Friday, Graham will be reading her work and hosting a conversation. It’s a local literary can’t miss, writes Spiegelman: “It should be fine. She is one of America’s most important, as well as controversial poets.” As a primer, after the jump you can find a episode of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Artists on the Cutting Edge Series (take notes Dallas Contemporary) featuring the poetry of Jorie Graham.
